About

The Jemez Chapter is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. We are a part of Back Country Horsemen of New Mexico and Back Country Horsemen of America, and share their missions and goals.

Our mission

  • To perpetuate the common sense use and enjoyment of horses and mules in America’s backcountry and wilderness.
  • To ensure that public lands remain open to recreational stock use.
  • To assist the agencies responsible for the management of public lands.
  • To educate, encourage and solicit active participation in wise and sustainable use of backcountry resources by horsemen and the general public, commensurate with our heritage.

Equestrians committed to keeping public lands accessible to everyone.

  • We coordinate volunteer work projects that take place in the Jemez Mountains on the Santa Fe National Forest.
  • The trail maintenance we do provides clear access to everyone who uses them.
  • We support public lands by advocating for their protection through public policy.
  • We coordinate fun rides that take place in the Jemez Mountains, Ojito Wilderness, and other areas.
